Contest Entry Deadline!
Today is the last day to enter the contest!
So if you’ve been thinking but not doing, go forth to your garden, snap a picture and send it in. Today’s the day!
Here’s a garden we’d love to submit as an entry, but we can’t. Because it is one of our own:
Every year Reed has a contest with her maple tree over who gets to use the soil in her garden. Maple tree roots love to take over a garden. They form a dense mat so thick that you can cut and lift the ground out in cubes. So each year that is exactly what Reed does. Although much of her front garden has been turned into a patio, for each of the flower beds she cuts the ground into squares with a spade and lifts out as many maple tree roots as possible. She refills the beds with fresh soil where needed and then packs them with annuals. It is a lot of work, but in the end it turns into a lush and lovely symphony in green and white.
